UK Nationals and European Grand Prix Final Day 1
Final Round of European and UK Grand Prix is underway

Plymouth Sound, Devon UK
The 4th and Final Round of the European and UK 18ft Skiff Grand Prix kicked off today. 12 skiffs launched from the Mount Batten Centre in 12 to 15 kts and sunshine for 3 days of racing in Plymouth sound. The wind increased over the day and showed measured peaks of very gusty winds but the experienced crews found their way over the course mostly. A strong fleet of 9 UK boats are joined by two German Teams and 1 Danish team making this one of the most competative fleets the UK has seen in many years.
Team Magic Marine from Germany took out the first two races and it wasn't such a big surprise for Pit Peckolt, Bronce medailist from the 2008 Olympics found the fastest way on the course replacing Norbert Peter as helm. In the last race reigning European champion James Mears from UK gained a win and the intermediate ranking can be found by clicking here:

It shows Magic Marine from Germany with 4 points in the lead followed by Black Dog, UK with 8 and Pica with 13 points following. Also Hyde Sailsas leader in the European ranking in fifths place is on his way to gain the European Grand Prix series title this year.
With moderate to fresh breezes forecast today and saturday and 20kts+ for Sunday there is an understandable air of excitement.
