The first race of the German Tour 2012 is finished but it were memorable days on Lake Ammersee in the south of Germany near Munich. With a record of 12 German teams competing and a wonderful hosting club Diessener Segelclub there were 9 races in 8-16 knots of shifting winds in nearly perfect weatherconditions of 25 °C, sun and breezes. The result table found the third winner in third years on the top, Team Eurolink with 10 points out of 7 ranked races. They had the best performance over the first two racedays and so Team Magic Marine couldn't do anything against their win despite of their three clean wins on the last day, a perfect hattrick. They ended 2nd overall with 12 points in front of last years winner Berlin Syndikat /( 22 points) and Steinlechner Bootswerft (23 points). This team had also two wins the days before but still had to struggle with their huge fat main #1 from a German sailmaker (Fritz Sails) and their new oval C-Tech rig. But their performance showed us, there is a lot to expect when they will have trimmed it perfect. Also good to hear that there will be a new sailmaker in Europe available for 18 sails if this development goes on.
There were also two newer teams to claim one second ( Alba Marine GER 48) and some third place (Gleitzeit GER 66) in between the phalanx of the experienced teams and that is some good motivation for them and for the class also. Finally good to notice the whole fleet has sailed also in more wind like 15-16 knots very close on the racecourse and the level of performance increased steadily over the last years. Funny point has been the "Batman" under the wings a s a team cruised into the finish under genaker with two man on the bow and the third under the bow after he were thrown out in a nearby capsize. Leaves us to mention they rescued the second place in that race.
