The weatherforcast was precisely on the point. Steady 16 knots increasing to 18, in gusts 19 until 22 knots. So it was the borderline-dance for the teams again: go big or small? That was the question.
Finally most of the teams decided for small rig and it was obviously the right decision you had to admit when you only spent ten minutes on the water. It wasn't for the wind, but the big waves that made the upwind like riding a wild mustang and the downwind a mixture of huge jumps and nearby nosedives….
More or less everybody succeeded today in nosedives to be honest. So the results for the first day were frowning: one broken finger on Team Pica, one bloody bruise on the sheethands head to be sewed on Berlinsyndikat , a broken pole on Magic Marine and a broken wing on the European Champions boat Liberty Sailing.
The pure races results were also discouraging: Out of three races the leader is Flemming Clausen with GP covers with two first in the first two races and one DNC, second is Team Pica with DNC, a second in the second race and a first in the last race to be the only boat to sail the complete course, after GP Covers capsized on the first jibe and leading boat Magic Marine broke his pole picking a real big wave washing down the gennaker.
The Third until last place of the ranking with each 45 points sees the rest of the fleet united. So nearly everything can still happen and the wind is also proposed with 17 knots for sunday.
