First European Grand Prix in Germany at Lake Ammersee 27th - 30th April
Posted By on Wednesday, May 01, 2013 Dear 18 foot Skiff Sailors from all over the world, especially those from the UK
I‘m sorry, you missed it and it was so cool!
Diessen at the Ammersee in Bavaria, approximately 10.000 people living there an probably the same amount of cows, but that doesn‘t matter for now...
Normally the 18 foot skiffs were a part of the Skiffmania with 49ers, Moth, 29ers, Musto Skiffs and so forth, this time we were all alone and 14 boats at the starting line for the 1. European Grand Prix Event. All by ourselves we had a lot of fun and the facilities of the Diessner Segel-Club are just amazing and perfect to host an 18 foot skiff event - I am sorry you missed it... Merry Christmas and a happy New Year 2012 from your European Secretary
Posted By on Saturday, December 24, 2011 I want to thank all of you for a wonderful season 2011. We had 23 European participants in all four Grand Prix races and a besides a numerous strong German fleet a reinforced british fleet that will show up in 2012 even stronger. In 2011 we visited the Hungarian fleet for the first time in History and are happy to return in 2012. The Denish team around Flemming and Soeren organised the Mark Foy Trophy in Sonderborg, the 18 ft Skiff Class' Premium Event. In Germany we had a new short race format and thousends of visitors watched the spectacle inside the harbour. All those races could be also watched on EuroSport thanks to Soeren. Also the Suisse fleet gave a sign of life and at the Suisse Grand Prix we had three new teams on the tour. There we also tried the new format for 2012, the handcapsystem with two windward buoys, that andvantages Rookie-,Pinhead- and Old-Boat-Teams. So hopefully we will have closer racing and more action for sailors and spectators. In 2012 we will have 5 races: 10th-13th of May, Hungary, Balatonföldvar 2nd-9th of June, Italy, Torbole, the Europeans 29th of June until 5th of July, Istanbul, Turkey (planned) 21st-24th of July Germany, Travemuende 28th-30th oh September, Plymouth, UK
Hope to meet a lot of you there
always good winds and a lot of fun Keep on flying, 18s

No wind for the first day
Posted By on Sunday, June 28, 2009 Strong heat and no wind on the packed parking of the Yacht Club de Carnac for this first day of competition. The teams brought together for this new competition which is to promote the 18 foot skiffs around the world is indeed rather exceptional. Among the helmsmen, there are no less than 4 winners of the JJ Giltinan International Championship, ran each mid-February in the bay of Sydney and considered as the equivalent of the world championship for this sport and nearly as much among the crewmen.
