Not hoping to sound pessimistic here guys but I dont see how something that is more than twice the size of the standard boom is a good idea, let alone the wind drag on something so big!!! And what is the cost of something like this that is obviously hand made. Has anyone thought what might happen in a huge crash if the crew lands on it or in it, I can see broken legs or worse.Are you reducing the size of mainsail or making it harder for crew to duck under to tack??? What about a foam sandwhich boom??? And at around 4kg for standard CST boom and about $1000 euro I cant see what the point is!!! Anyway, good luck with it!!! And thanx Patrick for pointing out that 18s are NOT one design, I really wish people would stop saying this about 18s. The hull, rig height and wing width, total sailing weight and fins are it, it couldnt be further from one design, you can still do your own sail and mast design, your own fittings and layout,ropes,etc, etc, etc, many endless possibilities. I guess its great to see people trying new things

Agree with you Greg, I'm not sure about the efficiency of that ... but Thomas is doing the "sexiest" development around the 18' (foil, rig, ...) and I love to see what is going out of his head !
Thanks for having re-highlighted the non one-design point ! I'm really happy to see that we will have new rig built in Europe (See Soren post in the market place), new sails development in UK (Andy's ones) and new ideas from Thomas in Switzerland ... |

I only carry it ... I would say about 2 kg ... but I will ask
The rig is not and will not be one design in the international class. The only parts that will be 100 % one design is the hull (including deck and the inside framing), the rudder and the centerboard.
So no limitation to use such boom |

Will we have problems with using it even when the class grow together? It looks pretty interestingwhat will be the aproximate weight?
